I’ve been making objects, crafted from textiles I’ve hand-printed. The imagery is based on a dream I had and some vague relationship between the earth and stars. These fabrics and objects are meant to be held and touched, as a receptacle of feelings and treasures. Find them here.

I'm so thrilled to have organized and participated in an art collaboration with two incredible artists, Ghazaleh Khalifeh and Lauren Cline . It was a beautiful experience, and the three of us will continue to make work as a collective. More information about pieces, philosophy and directions can be found at www.neartofarfrom.com. Works from the three of us will be available for purchase- add us to your collection!
Last summer, I had the great honor to be part of Signal Fire's Outpost Residency in the Mt. Hood area of Oregon. Having never spent more than a few days in the woods before, I was excited for the chance to unplug and be quiet.
The experience was elating, terrifying, and an overall humbling reminder of the force and beauty of nature.
My idea of how to work and why has completely shifted as a result of spending this time in nature. Where and what is HOME has been an emerging theme, on larger and smaller scales. Is it the things around you? A place? A feeling? A body? A connection? Real or imagined?
Ever grateful to Signal Fire for giving space for me to examine these questions.
My process lately has been of sliding back and forth between mediums, creating textures with print processes and digitally manipulating & screen printing them on yarn and then weaving the yarn into fabric. Using cast-off yarn and fabric to make collagraph print plates to continue to inform textures.
Overall, my interest has been in capturing movement and creating depth, even with one layer of print. The movement back and forth has been a result of approaching an idea from several angles to try and get to the heart of it.
When I first conceived the idea, I wanted to interview people to find how they experience the felt sense of something seen visually, whether viscerally or emotionally, possibly even verbally. For many of us, we are so influenced by what we absorb through our eyes, on levels we may not realize, it's a topic I'd love to explore more deeply.
A peek into my yarn printing and weaving process- llama yarn printed with a discharge dye, washed and woven with a variety of wool. An exploration in texture, movement and obscurity as well as a continuation of my study of sensation and how it is perceived by the eye as well as the hand.
This is what the inside of my creative process looks like...
A few of my favorite looks from the Steffie Christiaens Fall/Winter 2011 runway show in Paris. My blood, sweat and tears are in these clothes!
